What an OPML file holds

An OPML file is a small XML document listing your subscriptions: each feed's address, its title, and the folder you had filed it under. It is a snapshot of your organisation, not of your articles — reading history and saved articles are not in it, whichever reader produced it.

Because the format belongs to no vendor, an OPML exported from one reader can be read by any other. That is what keeps the move reversible: you are no more locked into Feedrion than you were anywhere else.

Where the export lives in your current reader

Feedrion's import screen spells out the exact path for the most common readers: Feedly, Inoreader, NewsBlur and The Old Reader. Elsewhere the option is almost always in the account settings, under “Export”, “Backup” or “OPML”.

Download the file onto the device you will import from. On Android as in the browser, Feedrion opens the system file picker, so the file has to be reachable locally.

And for leaving one day

Feedrion also exports to OPML, from the settings. Your subscriptions and folders come back out as a file you keep, or load somewhere else. It doubles as a backup that does not depend on your account.

Importing, step by step

1. Export the OPML file from your current reader and save it on your device.
2. In Feedrion, open Settings, then “Import an OPML file”.
3. Pick the file: Feedrion reads the list and recreates your folders along with your subscriptions.
4. The summary shows what was imported, what already existed and what could not be read — a feed you already follow is never duplicated.

Importing replaces nothing: whatever you already followed in Feedrion stays, the new subscriptions are added alongside.
