Yes. Articles are stored in a local database on the device, so the list and the text stay readable with no network. Actions taken offline — reading, archiving, starring — are queued and synchronised automatically once you are back online.
No. If you use your own key it is stored encrypted on the device and requests go straight from the device to the provider you picked. Neither the key, nor the text sent, nor the summaries produced go through Feedrion's servers, and those summaries are never synchronised.
